Women’s Leadership Conference to Be Held Feb. 26

BOONE—The third annual Women’s Leadership Conference at Appalachian State University will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Plemmons Student Union. The theme is “The Power to See.”

Topics for discussion include “Slim Hopes: Advertising and America’s Obsession with Thinness,” “A Woman’s One-Hour Retreat,” “Using Visualization for Personal Growth,” “Approaches to Mentoring Women Leaders,” and “Color Consciousness in the African-American Community and Its Impact on Society.”

Registration will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Sessions run from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m., followed by a dinner and awards program. Cost is $7.

Winners of this year’s Women of Influence Award will be announced at the dinner. The award recognizes “unsung heroes,” women who work quietly, diligently and with great compassion to improve the lives of their friends, their organizations and their co-workers.

Past award winners are: 1998–Glenda Hubbard, Kathy Mann, Jennifer H. Sloan and Shannon Williams; 1999–Annette Bednosky, Mary Jacqueline Byrd, Peggy Eller, Marianne McMasters, Lauren Werner and Brenda Wey.
