Education Scholar to Speak April 3

BOONE–Education scholar Michael W. Apple will discuss “Markets, Standards and Inequality” April 3 from 5-6 p.m. at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center at Appalachian State University. A reception will follow. The public is invited.

Apple is a visiting scholar in Appalachian’s Reich College of Education. A former elementary and secondary school teacher and past president of a teachers union, Apple has worked with educational systems, governments, universities, and activist and dissident groups throughout the world to democratize educational research policy and practice.

He is the author of “Cultural Politics and Education” and other award-winning books on educational reform and the relationship between culture and power.

Apple is the John Bascom Professor of Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Policy Studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
