International Music Performed April 4

BOONE — “The Music of the World,” part of the Faculty Recital Series at Appalachian State University, will be presented April 4, at 8 p.m. at Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

This year’s recital series has showcased composers from England, France, Austria, Germany, Spain, Italy, and North and South America. The April 4 recital features composers from countries Russia, Africa, Brazil and East Europe.

Mezzo-soprano Priscilla Peebles sings three works by Sergei Rachmaninov. She will be accompanied by pianist Rodney Reynerson.

“African Song” arranged by Cahn will be performed on marimba by Jay Jackson, Scott Meister and Robert Falvo.

“Sonatina” by Michal Spisak will be performed by Alicia Chapman on oboe, Lynn Beebe on clarinet and Jon Beebe on bassoon.

“World Rhythms” arranged by Falvo and Meister, combines instruments and melodic rhythms from India, Arabia and Ireland. Flavo and Meister will play Indian table, Middle Eastern doumbec and the Irish bodhran, all percussion instruments.

“Salvation is Created” by Paul Tschesnokov and “Sharagan and Fugue” by Alan Hovhaness will be performed by Bill Jones and Brent Bingham on trumpet, Karen Robertson Smith on horn, Harold McKinney on trombone and Jason Remley on tuba.

“Suite for Chant and Violin” by Heitor Villa-Lobos will be performed by soprano Julia Pedigo and violinist Nancy Bargerstock.
