Appalachian Young People’s Theatre Presents Children’s Musical Oct. 6-8

thingshappen.jpgBOONE – “How Things Happen in Three!,” a fun-filled musical for children ages 4 to 12, will be presented by Appalachian State University’s Appalachian Young People’s Theatre (AYPT) Oct. 6-8 in Greer Arena Theater.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Oct. 6 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 7 and 8.

Tickets are on sale in the Valborg Theatre box office Monday-Friday, 2-5 p.m., They are $3 for children and students and $5 for adults.

“How Things Happen in Three!” by Tom Behm with music by Rose Marie Cooper includes several popular children’s stories that feature three characters.

“Funny isn’t it?

How things happen in three?” the company sings in an opening number which traces the recurring theme of “three” through nursery rhymes and poetry.

“The Three Billy Goats Gruff” dispose of the ugly troll, and Goldilocks visits the house of “The Three Bears.”

The song “Everyone Should Have the Chance to Make Three Wishes” introduces “The Fisherman and His Wife,” “The Three Wishes” and “The Evergreen Tree Who Wishes for Leaves.”

The audience participates in the high-spirited “What Fun We Had at the Fair,” which is interrupted by the arrival of the Big Bad Wolf.

Kelly Noice, a senior theatre education major, directs the play. Matt Maines is music director.

The cast includes Daryl Walker, Marie Anderson, Mike Holmes, Jason Denton, Sarah Byerley, Sharon Pinney and Shelby Jennings.

Kara Norton is the stage manager.

AYPT is part of the Department of Theatre and Dance.

The group performs every fall semester at the Hiddenite Center in Hiddenite and on campus at the Greer Arena Theatre.

In the spring, AYPT will tour elementary schools in Western North Carolina.
