Summer Craft Workshops Begin in June at Appalachian

BOONE–Summer is a time for creative endeavors and learning new skills at Appalachian State University.

A series of craft workshops for beginners to those with advanced skills begin in June. All sessions are taught in Kerr Scott Hall and are sponsored by the Department of Technology. Class costs include instruction and materials. Call the Office of Conferences and Institutes at (828) 262-3045 for more information.

Beginning pottery, taught by Kristine Mentro, will meet Saturdays from 9-11:30 a.m. and run June 16-Aug. 4. Class size is limited. Cost is $120 per person.

Lucy Hamilton teaches intermediate pottery Tuesdays from 6-8:30 p.m. beginning June 19 and ending July 31. Cost is $120 per person.

Advanced pottery will be taught by Eric Reichard on Wednesdays from 6-8:30 p.m. Classes beginning June 20 and end Aug. 1. Cost is $105.

Children’s pottery classes will be taught by Maggie Black. Classes for children ages 6-9 will meet on Mondays and Thursdays from 9-10:30 a.m., June 18-July 4. Cost is $70. Classes for children ages 10-14 will meet on Mondays and Thursdays from 10:45 a.m. –12:15 p.m., June 18-July 19. Cost is $70.

Barbara Chapman Cox will teach two sessions of basket making. Cost is $115 for each session. Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-9 p.m. The first session runs June 19-July 19 and the second session runs July 24-Aug. 16.

Beck Long will teach beginning black and white photography June 22-Aug. 10. Classes meet on Fridays from 6-9 p.m. Cost is $140.

Long will teach intermediate photography Mondays from 6-9 p.m. beginning June 18 and ending Aug. 6. Cost is $145.

Stained glass artist Judy Steiner will teach her craft Wednesdays from 6-8:30 p.m. Classes run June 20-July 25 and cost $130.

Jim Rice will teach a jewelry-making class Tuesdays beginning June 19. Classes meet Tuesdays from 6-8:30 p.m. and conclude July 31. Cost is $145.

Advanced jewelry techniques will be taught by Jeff Church on Mondays beginning June 18 and ending July 30. Classes meet from 6-8:30 p.m. Cost is $145.
