Appalachian Cultural Museum Announces Trip Schedule

BOONE–Appalachian State University’s Appalachian Cultural Museum is sponsoring a series of fun trips featuring theater, music, baseball and more.

Barter Theatre: An overnight trip to the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Va., will begin at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 8 and return to Boone Aug. 9. “Eleanor” is a new musical about one of America’s great first ladies. After a matinee performance participants will have dinner at the Greenway Party Haven House. That evening the group will see Neil Simon’s “Proposals” a comedy by the master of comedy writers. After a continental breakfast the next morning, the group will join the celebration of the Virginia Highlands Festival in Abingdon. The $140 (single) or $103 (double occupancy) cost includes transportation, two theatre tickets, dinner, room and breakfast. A nonrefundable deposit of $50 is due by July 9.

Quilt and Textile Show: A trip to Greensboro for the World Quilt and Textile Show will be held Aug. 16. Instructors from six countries will offer more than 50 workshops and lectures. There will be special exhibits from Australia, Japan, Norway, Great Britain and the United States. There will be more than 80 vendors and more than 300 quilts. The group leaves at 8 a.m. and returns that evening. The $25 cost includes transportation and ticket.

Baseball: Take a trip to see the Hickory Crawdads play the Lakewood Blue Claws Aug. 23. The group leaves at 5 p.m. and returns after the game. The $30 cost includes transportation, ticket, dinner voucher, concession voucher and a Crawdad T-shirt. A $15 nonrefundable deposit is due by July 23 with the remainder due by Aug. 15.

“Cats”: The group leaves at 11 a.m. Aug. 26 for a trip to Charlotte’s Blumenthal Theater to see the musical “Cats.” After the matinee performance, the group will dine at LeBistro in the Winter Garden of the Blumenthal. The $110 cost includes transportation, theatre ticket and dinner. A $50 nonrefundable deposit is due by July 27 with the remainder due by Aug. 15.

Barter Theatre: Travel to Abingdon, Va., Sept. 19 for lunch at the Greenway Haven Party House and a matinee performance of “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.” The play appeals to audiences of any age who have fallen in love, out of love, married, divorced or faced the unspeakable horror of the first date. The group leaves at 10:40 a.m. and returns to Boone that night. The $39 cost includes transportation, lunch and theatre ticket. A $25 nonrefundable deposit is due by Aug. 17 with the remainder due Sept. 10.

Pennsylvania Trip: Travel to Pennsylvania Nov. 8-11 for a Thanksgiving and Christmas celebration with Ted and Ruth Rinehart. The $425 cost is double occupancy.

Southern Living Christmas Show: Travel to Charlotte Nov. 13 for the Southern Living Christmas Show. The group leaves at 8:30 a.m. and returns that evening. The $25 cost includes transportation and entry ticket.

Biltmore at Christmas: A Nov. 27 trip to the Biltmore Estate and Gardens features a lunch buffet at Deer Park. The group leaves at 8 a.m. and returns that evening. The $63 cost includes transportation, ticket to Biltmore and the Winery, and lunch. A $25 nonrefundable deposit is due by Oct. 22 with the remainder due by Nov. 20.
