Rev. Jimmy Creech Speaks Nov. 1

BOONE—A former ordained elder in The United Methodist Church, Rev. Jimmy Creech addresses gay and lesbian rights Nov. 1 as part of the 25th-year celebration of women’s studies at Appalachian State University.

His talk, “Freedom to Love Without Fear,” begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Blue Ridge Ballroom of Plemmons Student Union. The public is invited.

Creech is chairperson of the board of directors of Soulforce Inc., an interreligious movement using the principles of nonviolent resistance taught and practiced by Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. to confront the spiritual violence perpetrated against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons by religious institutions.
