Alumni Recital Features Contemporary Music

BOONE–Alumni from the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University will present a recital of contemporary music on Thursday, May 9, at 8 p.m.

The recital will be in Broyhill Music Center’s recital hall. Admission is free.

Performing are Brent Bingham on trumpet, Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham on flute, vocalists Jim Taylor and Paul Adamson on piano.

Bingham received his bachelor’s degree from Appalachian in 1985. Schneeloch-Bingham earned her bachelor’s degree in 1984 and master’s degree in 1985. Taylor received a master’s degree from Appalachian in 1992.

The program includes Poulenc’s “Banalities,” Hindemith’s “Sonata for Trumpet” and a collection of “American Songs” by composers such as John Duke, Ernst Bacon and Richard Hageman.

The recital concludes with “Sonata for Flute and Piano” by William Harbinson, dean of the Hayes School of Music.
