Housing and Home Furnishings Seminar

022103semina_dl.jpgDennis Burgette, president and chief executive officer of Broyhill Industries, speaks to students in a housing and home furnishings seminar at Appalachian State University about trends in the furniture market. The seminar brings furniture industry executives to campus to share their business experience with students. Speakers this semester are Anne Simmons of Anne Simmons Designs, Katrina Patton of Michael Thomas Company, Joe Carroll with Furniture/Today newspaper, Steve Kincaid of Kincaid Furniture, Art Thompson of Laneventure Furniture and Russ Batson and Chris Pearce with the American Furniture Manufacturers Association. A total of 26 students are enrolled in the seminar. Appalachian has more than 400 graduates working in the furniture and home furnishings industries. The university recently created a curriculum that allows students to receive a bachelor’s degree in furniture studies and also major or a minor in marketing or management in the Walker College of Business.
