High Country Jubilee Chorus Performs in Area

BOONE–The High Country Jubilee Chorus will present its seventh annual concert series in Avery, Wilkes and Watauga counties this month.

The chorus will perform on Friday, June 20, at 8 p.m. at the Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Banner Elk. Admission is $5 for adults. Children will be admitted free. The singers will perform on Saturday, June 21, at 8 p.m. at Wilkesboro Baptist Church. Admission is $5 for adults. Children will be admitted free. On Sunday, June 22, the chorus will perform at 8 p.m. in Rosen Concert Hall on the Appalachian State University campus in Boone. Admission is $10 for adults. Children and students will be admitted free of charge.

Net proceeds will benefit music scholarships.

The 35-member group is comprised of singers from the three-county area, and is directed by Dr. Priscilla Porterfield with Appalachian’s Hayes School of Music.

The concert will include a mix of solos, duets and quartet appearances featuring a range of musical styles and selections, including sacred, popular and Broadway show tunes.

The performances are sponsored by the arts councils of Avery, Watauga and Wilkes counties. The Boone performance is part of the Rosen Concert Series, which is sponsored by Appalachian’s Office of Summer Sessions and the Watauga County Arts Council.
