Kesler Wins Capote Scholarship for Creative Writing

BOONE–Appalachian State University senior Eric Kesler of Boone has been awarded first place for his creative non-fiction pieces “She’s So” and “Time and a Half” in the 2004-05 Truman Capote Scholarship for Creative Writing competition.

Endowed by the late author’s estate, the scholarship is awarded to a rising junior or senior English major concentrating in creative writing at Appalachian. The scholarship will provide $500 toward tuition for the coming academic year.

Originally from Charlotte, Kesler came to Appalachian State in fall 2003, where he pursues a major in English with a minor in sociology.

Beginning with the competition for the 2005-06 academic year, the scholarship award will alternate between poetry and prose (fiction, non-fiction, and dramatic works).

The application deadline will fall in March 2005 and guidelines will be made available early in the Spring 2005 semester.
