Steely Pan Steel Band Performs Oct. 8

BOONE–The Steely Pan Steel Band at Appalachian State University plays the music of Trinidad and Tobago on Friday, Oct. 8, at 8 p.m. in Farthing Auditorium. Admission is $8 for the general public and $5 for students.

Tickets are available at the Farthing Auditorium Box Office. Proceeds from the concert will finance new equipment purchases and travel for the band.

The evening will showcase the band’s latest CD titled “Steely Pan Steel Band Plays the Music of Trinidad and Tobago.” The CD will be available for purchase. Selections performed during the concert include “My Band,” “Birthday Party,” “Pan in a minor” and “My Paradise. ”

Joining the steel band later in the concert is Appalachian’s 127-member Gospel Choir, directed by Dr. Roosevelt Escalante. In addition, senior music majors Rebecca Bennett and Joel Spencer will be featured on “Concerto for Two Flutes and Steel Band,” arranged by Scott Meister. The band also will perform Disney movie theme favorites.
