Miller to Chair Appalachian’s Department of Theatre and Dance

BOONE – Raphael “Ray” F. Miller of Roswell, Ga., has been named chairman of Appalachian State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance.

Miller will begin his new job at Appalachian July 1, replacing Dr. Susan Cole who is retiring. Cole has served as chair of the department since 1989.

Miller has been an associate professor of theatre and dance at Georgia State University since 1989. At GSU he directed the University Theatre and GSU Dance Ensemble and was coordinator of undergraduate advising.

Miller also has teaching experience at Daytona Beach Community College, Ithaca College and Western Oregon State College. He holds an M.S. degree and a Ph.D. in theatre and dance from the University of Oregon.

Miller’s writings have been published in Theatre Journal, Congress on Research in Dance newsletter, Humanities in the South, Dance Chronicle and Dance Research Journal.
