Jubilee Chorus Performs June 17 and 18

jubilee.jpgBOONE – Celebrating its ninth season, the High Country Jubilee Chorus will present two concerts this month featuring sacred, folk and popular songs.

The chorus will perform Friday, June 17, at 7:30 p.m. at Crossnore First Baptist Church. Advanced tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the church. Tickets are $7 at the door. Students and children will be admitted free.

The singers also will perform Saturday, June 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall on the Appalachian State University campus in Boone. Advance tickets are $7 and may be purchased at Rydell Music Center in the Boone Mall. Tickets are $10 at the door. Students and children will be admitted free.

Proceeds from the concerts will benefit vocal music programs and scholarships.

The concerts are presented by the Watauga County Arts Council in cooperation with Appalachian’s Hayes School of Music. Tara Andrews, choral director of Avery High School, directs the group.

Songs featured in the first half of the show include “Ave Maria,” “Deep River,” “Jeanie With The Light Brown Hair” and “All The Things You Are.”

Also included will be solos, duets and special features, including selections from the Broadway musical “Guys and Dolls,” including “Luck Be A Lady Tonight,” “A Bushel And A Peck,” “If I Were A Bell” and “Sit Down You’re Rockin’ The Boat.”

The Jubilee Chorus is comprised of singers from Ashe, Avery, Watauga and Wilkes counties.
