Contest Held to Name Library’s Coffee Shop

BOONE—Appalachian State University students have the opportunity to name a new coffee shop that will be located in the atrium of Carol Grotnes Belk Library and Information Commons.

Students enrolled for the spring 2006 semester may enter the contest sponsored by the library. Suggestions for the name should be submitted by e-mail to by 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 12.

Entries cannot be copyrighted names and should include a statement of 25 words or less which describes why the name was chosen for the contest. Criteria are how well the entry relates to libraries, books and reading, technology or the university, as well as the name’s general appeal. Students may submit more than one entry; however, each entry must be submitted by only one person.

First prize is a $100 gift certificate to the University Bookstore. Two runners-up will each receive a $50 gift certificate.

The coffee shop, which will open in early 2006, will be located in the library’s Don and Pat Phillips Cyber Café, an area designed for 24-hour study with computers and wireless Internet connections, in addition to coffee and light food service.
