Contemporary works for cello performed Oct. 5 at Appalachian

BOONE—Cellist Jack W. Turner will present a recital Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Violist Eric Koontz will accompany Turner.

Turner’s ongoing recital series titled “Meditations” originally began in 2003 as a showcase for six frequently overlooked solo cello masterworks by Egon Wellesz, Ernst Krenek and Ernest Bloch. It has since expanded to include a variety of pieces from the 20th and 21st centuries, including several works by non-Western composers.

Turner will premiere Jonathan Green’s composition “Sisyphean Summer.” Also on the program are works by Paul Hindemith, Tilo Medek and Hans Huyssen.
