Documentary filmmaker Tom Hansell discusses his work Feb. 6

BOONE—Appalshop media artist Tom Hansell will present the artist talk “Slow Voltage:

Connecting Electricity, Appalachia, and You” Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. in Room 114 Belk Library and Information Commons at Appalachian State University.

Hansell’s projects examine energy policy from the perspective of people in Kentucky’s coalfields who live with the direct consequences of the nation’s dependence on fossil fuels.

Hansell will show examples of his documentary films and solar-powered video installations, and discuss his work at the Appalshop media arts center, as well as his work as an artist-in-residence at the university’s Center for Appalachian Studies.

His talk is sponsored by the Center for Appalachian Studies. The public is invited to attend.
