Contemporary percussion music performed March 2

BOONE—Appalachian State University’s New Paradigm Percussion Quartet will perform March 2 at 4 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

The New Paradigm Percussion Quartet is comprised of four percussion students who are hand-selected to perform advanced percussion quartet literature. Students performing March 2 are Tim Cockerill, Bobby Fish, Tommy Smith and Stephanie Wilson.

The quartet is directed by Robert Falvo from the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian.

The program includes “Links No. 3″ by Stuart Saunders Smith, “Sativoprionmi,” a free improvisation piece performed by the quartet, and “The Character of American Sunlight” by Jerome Kitzke and “Third Construction” by John Cage.
