BOONE—Appalachian Percussion Ensemble explores the world of percussion from musical noise to jazz during an April 8 performance at Appalachian State University.

The performance begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

The ensemble will perform two movements from Wendy Mae Chambers’ “Twelve Squared – A Voodoo Tone Poem,” John Cage’s “Imaginary Landscapes No. 3,” Nebojsa Zivkovic’s “Trio per Uno,” Bob Becker’s “Mudra,” Anthony Korf’s “Blue Rhythm Quintet” and Dave Samuels’ “Rendezvous.”

The musicians will perform on traditional percussion instruments such as vibraphone, marimba, cymbals, tom-tom and snare drums, as well as, empty tin cans, battery-operated buzzer and an audio frequency oscillator.
