Theatre and Dance Presents Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” Nov. 3-7

BOONE – Appalachian State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare Nov. 3-7 in Valborg Theatre on campus. Performances Wednesday through Saturday begin at 7:30 p.m. with Sunday’s matinee beginning at 2 p.m.

“Romeo and Juliet” resonates with themes that are still relevant today.  Director Derek Gagnier finds the play to be “as much about the life-affirming feeling of love as it is about prejudice and violence.” Set in the world of Pre-Raphaelite paintings, Appalachian’s production embodies the romanticism and passion of those works.

All patrons are invited to a discussion with the cast and director following Wednesday evening’s performance.  An open reception follows Friday evening’s performance.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for faculty, staff and seniors, and $6 for students and youth K-18.  The box office is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2-5 p.m.,  Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30 to 5 p.m., and one hour prior to each performance.  Purchase tickets in person, by phone at (828) 262-3063, or at

The Valborg Theatre is located at 480 Howard St., behind the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts.  Parking is available on campus in faculty lots, the parking garage behind the Belk Library and Information Commons, and behind the Turchin Center.
