Appalachian Guitar Orchestra performs Dec. 5

BOONE—The Appalachian Guitar Orchestra presents its end-of-semester concert Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.

The orchestra is directed by Dr. Douglas James, a member of the Hayes School of Music faculty.

The program includes Béla Bartók’s “Bear Dance,” Handel’s “Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No. 2,” Karl Andreas Goepfert’s “Sonata for Bassoon and Guitar” featuring bassoonist Sarah Jett and guitarist Brian Hodges, the first movement of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s “Quintet for Guitar and Strings, Op. 143” with guitarist Russell Strand-Poole and the Hayes String Quartet, Jaime Zenamon’s “Contrastes,” and arrangements of the Venezualan pieces “La Partida” and “Danza.”

The concert concludes with Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride.”
