Dec. 2 concert features jazz favorites

BOONE—If you have a favorite jazz vocal composition, chances are you will hear it performed Dec. 2 during a concert by the Appalachian Jazz Vocal Ensemble at Appalachian State University. The performance begins at 6 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall. Admission is free.

The ensemble is directed by Tony McNeill, a lecturer in the Hayes School of Music. Saxophonist Todd Wright, pianist Matt Powers, bass player Daniel Hight and percussionist Heath Towson will provide the accompaniment.

The program will be chosen from the following: “It’s Only a Paper Moon,” “With You I’m Born Again,” “They Can’t Take That Away From Me,” “Stormy Weather,” “It’s a Wonderful World,” “God Bless the Child,” “The Christmas Song” and “Blue Skies.”

Ensemble members are Laura Leigh Thomas, Alyssa E. Taylor, Emily G. Ostwalt, Meredith Fann, Pamela Cuevas, Christopher Criqui, Eric Sensenbrenner, Matthew C. Lonon and Tyrone K. Young.
