Wind Ensemble performance includes N.C. premieres of three contemporary compositions

BOONE—The Appalachian Wind Ensemble will perform Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.

The ensemble is directed by Dr. John Stanley Ross. Guest conductors are Donald Peach and Justin Hammonds.

The program features three works for wind ensemble being performed in North Carolina for the first time.

They are “Centennial Celebration Fanfare” by John Carnahan, “Reminiscences” by Mark Camphouse and “Sparkle” by William Harbinson. Harbinson is a member of the Hayes School of Music faculty and former dean of the school.

The wind ensemble also will perform “Morceau Symphonique, Op. 88” by Alexandre Guilmant featuring trombone soloist Drew Leslie, “Turkey in the Straw” by Michael Markowski, “Fest Marsch” from Wagner’s “Tannhauser” and “Celebrations” by John Zdechlik.
