Appalachian Chorale performs Dec. 6

BOONE—Franz Schubert’s major work for voice will be performed Dec. 6 by the Appalachian Chorale at Appalachian State University. The performance begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.

Joby Bell is the music director and accompanist. Trumpeters James Stokes Jr. and Brent Bingham will also provide accompaniment.

The chorale will perform “Mass in G Major” by Franz Schubert, Henry Purcell’s “Jubilate Deo” and “Sonata in D for Two Trumpets” by Petronio Franceschini.

Composed in just six days, “Mass in G Major” is one of four compositions written in a mass setting by Schubert. It features a lyric “Kyrie,” a somewhat darker “Christie” presented by a soprano soloist, a hypnotic “Credo” and a jubilant “Gloria.” The mass was composed for the intimate setting of Schubert’s parish church.
