Six national publications — including U.S. News & World Report, The Princeton Review and Forbes magazine — have recognized App State among the best schools in the nation, and the Southeast, for 2025–26.     11 new Chancellor’s Scholars join App State’s academic community for 2025–26

    For fall 2026, prospective students should apply by Nov. 15 and submit all materials by Nov. 30 to be considered for first-year university scholarships

    For the 2025–26 academic year, 11 first-year App State students are Chancellor’s Scholars. The Chancellor’s Scholarship — App State’s oldest and most academically competitive merit-based scholarship — is one of several academically competitive scholarships offered by the university.

    The sworn officers are the 8th class to complete the program’s Police Academy

    The eighth class of App State’s Appalachian Police Academy comprises 15 graduates who are sworn North Carolina police officers working with the App State Police Department while they complete their degrees at App State. To date, the academy has trained more than 150 sworn police officers.

    Following a $26 million renovation, App State reopened Wey Hall for classes this fall, followed by the opening of the facility’s new Cathy P. Walling Student Art Gallery in late September. The newly renovated and modernized Wey Hall provides state-of-the-art facilities, cutting-edge technology and essential resources for App State students, faculty and staff.

21,798 Mountaineers enroll at App State for fall 2025

Online and transfer enrollment records drive strategic growth across university, while Boone enrollment remains steady

This fall, App State enrolls 21,798 Mountaineer students, a 1.1% increase over last fall and its largest undergraduate population to date. Fall 2025 enrollment at App State was boosted by a 28% rise in online students and the highest-ever number of transfer students.

    An adaptation of the “longest and most charming love letter in literature,” written by Virginia Woolf for her lover, Vita Sackville-West, “Orlando” is a theatrical, wild, fantastical trip through space, time and gender. Orlando’s adventures begin as a young man, when he serves as courtier to Queen Elizabeth. Adapted by Sarah Ruhl.

    Climate Stories Collaborative

    The Climate Stories Collaborative invites you to join us for a workshop on the intersections of theatre and climate solutions. We’ll learn about and practice the techniques of Forum Theatre, developed by Brazilian dramatist Augusto Boal to support communities in changemaking. Learn how to use easy, effective, and FUN theatre games to spur non-threatening and productive dialogue around difficult, sometimes controversial issues. These games can empower the participants and lead to positive action.

    CleanAIRE NC has developed a statewide model for connecting universities, communities, and other partners through participatory air quality monitoring and advocacy. This workshop will share examples of these collaborations, discuss the value of co-created research, and explore how faculty and students can contribute to equitable environmental outcomes. Workshop speakers, both of whom are App State Sustainable Development Department alumni, will also touch on how mission-driven organizations are adapting to today’s funding challenges while maintaining impact and integrity.
