Golf tournament honors Appalachian alumnus

BOONE—Golf for fun and a good cause Monday, Oct. 7, during the 14th Annual Stephen’s Tournament at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Raleigh, a course designed by 1992 US Open Champion Tom Kite. The tournament begins at 11:30 a.m.

The tournament is named for Steve Vacendak, a 1996 graduate of Appalachian State University who was killed in a bicycle accident in 1999. Proceeds from the tournament support the Stephen Vacendak Memorial Fellowship Fund, which is used to recruit the most qualified and promising master’s degree students to Appalachian’s geography program.

Registration is $600 for a foursome and $175 for individuals. Lunch and dinner will be provided and cold beverages will be available during the tournament. Dinner will be followed by a prize raffle, live auction and trophy presentation.
