Repertory Orchestra and Concert Band perform Feb. 24 at Appalachian

BOONE—Musical masterpieces, both from the classical and concert band repertoire, will be performed Feb. 24 at 8 p.m. at Appalachian State University.

The Appalachian Repertory Orchestra and the Appalachian Concert Band share the program for the free performance in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall.

Will Selle conducts the orchestra for a performance of Handel’s “Concerto Grosso, Op 6, No. 1 in G Major,” which features violinists Ryan Haynes and Hunter Cox, cellist Raechyl Anderson, and harpsichordist Rodney Ward. The orchestra also will perform Peter Warlock’s “Capriol Suite.”

Graduate students Brooke Humfeld and Justin Hensley will conduct the concert band. Their portion of the program is comprised of Sousa’s “Solid Men to the Front,” Frances McBeth’s “Chant and Jubilo,” Robert Spitta’s “Pacem – A Hymn for Peace” and “Fiesta” from Clifton Williams’ “Symphonic Dance No. 3.”
