Works for woodwind chamber ensembles performed April 2

BOONE—Woodwind chamber ensembles comprised of students from Appalachian State University will perform April 2 in Broyhill Music Center on campus.

The program begins at 8 p.m. in Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

Flutists Taylor James and Erica Spear will perform Franz Doppler’s “Rigoletto-Fantasie, Op. 38” accompanied by pianist Jonathan Asbell.

The allegro from “Suite Brève for Reed Trio” by Eugene Bozza will be performed by oboist Josie Borchert, clarinetist Margaret Mauney and bassoonist Austin Nield.

Flutists Kathryn Gorgas and Kristin Hood will perform the affetuoso and vicace movements from Telemann’s “Duo, Op. 2, No. 4 in E minor.”

“Divertimento” by Jean Berger will be performed by flutists Laura Arévalo-Gallego, Cara Conway and Katie Smith.

Also on the program is Michael Burns’ “Shuffle” from his “Riffs for Reed Quintet.” Oboist Josie Borchert, clarinetist Margaret Mauney, bass clarinetist Victoria Alston, alto saxophonist William Lee and bassoonist Austin Nield will perform.

Kate Chilton and Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham will perform four works from Robert Muczynski’s “Duos for Flutes, Op. 34.”

The program concludes with “At the Summit” from Eric Ewazen’s “Roaring Fork Woodwind Quintet.” Performing are Taylor James, flute, Christopher Embry, oboe, Andrew Paluszak, clarinet, Alexander Wilson, bassoon, and Daniel Harris, horn.
