Works for woodwind chamber ensembles performed April 2

BOONE—Woodwind chamber ensembles comprised of students from Appalachian State University will perform April 2 in Broyhill Music Center on campus.

Chamber music for saxophones performed April 7

BOONE—Saxophones, from soprano to bass, will be featured during an April 7 performance of saxophone chamber music at Appalachian State University. The program begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall.

Call for submissions for Looking Glass Gallery exhibits

BOONE—The Looking Glass Gallery is accepting proposals for exhibits that will be shown during summer and fall. This is an excellent opportunity for Appalachian State University students, as well as groups, classes, faculty and staff to exhibit their artwork, receive peer feedback, and gain firsthand experience with the gallery submission and exhibition process.

Brass ensembles perform April 6

BOONE—An April 6 concert at Appalachian State University features brass chamber ensembles from the Hayes School of Music. The 6 p.m. performance will be held in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall. Admission is free.

Art critic and author Eleanor Heartney lectures March 28

BOONE—The Smith Gallery at Appalachian State University will present a lecture by art critic and author Eleanor Heartney on Friday, March 28, at 4 p.m. in Room 114 of Belk Library and Information Commons. Heartney’s lecture, “Art Today: Tales of Plastic Surgery, Genetically Altered Rabbits and Other Acts of Art,” is free and open to the public.

Global Opportunities Conference to focus on Cuba

BOONE—A $100,000 gift from Yadkin Bank to Appalachian State University’s Walker College of Business will support the college’s Honors Convocation, an annual event and reception attended by the college’s highest academically achieving students, their families and members of the business faculty.

Batchelor receives NYC’s Explorer’s Club grant

BOONE—Cameron Batchelor of Raleigh, a junior geology major at Appalachian State University, has been awarded a $2,000 Youth Activity Grant from the Explorer’s Club in New York City to conduct fieldwork in Mongolia this summer.
