Ramsdell receives excellence in teaching award

BOONE—Carla Ramsdell has received the Faculty Award for Excellence in General Education teaching from University College at Appalachian State University. She is a lecturer in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Browning receives Duncan Faculty Enrichment and Teaching Fellowship

BOONE—Associate Professor Judkin Browning from the Department of History at Appalachian State University has received the 2014 Wayne D. Duncan Appalachian State University Faculty Enrichment and Teaching Fellowship. The award is presented by Appalachian’s University College.

Campus emergency siren test conducted May 7

Appalachian Chorale performs operatic works April 29

BOONE—Popular vocal compositions from operas by Verdi, Offenbach and others will be performed by the Appalachian Chorale Tuesday, April 29, at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.

Students prepare Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 entry for cross-Atlantic journey

BOONE—Thirty-four students from Appalachian State University will soon begin packing for a 4,000-plus mile trip to Versailles, France. But before they pack their luggage, they first have to prepare their 1,200-square foot house for the Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 competition.

Robertson honored by Association of College Unions International

BOONE—David Robertson, director of student programs and Plemmons Student Union at Appalachian State University, has received an Emeritus Award from the Association of College Unions International. Robertson joined ACUI in 1975 when he served as director of the College Union and student activities at Wake Forest University.

Naylor authors children’s book

BOONE—Writer Alice Naylor and illustrator Gail Haley have collaborated on a children’s book based on a true story of adoption: “Maya Rose Chooses a Grandmother” published by Aquillrelle.

Heinen receives NOAA Hollings Scholarship

BOONE—Laura Heinen’s passion for environmental research has garnered attention from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The sophomore geology major at Appalachian State University has received a NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship for the 2014-15 academic year.
