Naylor authors children’s book

BOONE—Writer Alice Naylor and illustrator Gail Haley have collaborated on a children’s book based on a true story of adoption: “Maya Rose Chooses a Grandmother” published by Aquillrelle.

Maya Rose Losardo, an adopted child from India, moved to Boone in 1994 when she was 3 years old. The book is told from Maya’s perspective when she decides to adopt Naylor as her grandmother.

Naylor is a professor emeritus from the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University and a former Newbery Medal committee chair. Haley is a book writer and illustrator and former artist in residence at Appalachian. She won the 1971 Caldecott Medal for her children’s book “A Story, A Story.”
