Duckenfield is a senior English major and social work minor from Garner. She has been a SOUL leader (Student Orientation Undergraduate Leader) for two years and was nominated by the SOUL Club for the homecoming court.

Grimes is a senior music education major from Apex. He also was nominated by the SOUL Club.

Candidates for homecoming queen and king are nominated by registered student organizations on campus.

The nominees are asked to submit a resume and respond to an essay question. That information is reviewed by a committee of faculty, staff and students. The top eight candidates for queen and king are named to the Homecoming Court. The top vote getters, as selected by the student body, are named queen and king.
