Blazing Bassoons perform Nov. 2

BOONE—Eleven students from the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University will perform as the ensemble Blazing Bassoons on Sunday, Nov. 2. The performance begins at 4 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

The bassoonists are Drew Bradshaw, Rachel Davis, Jay Dineen, Kayla Jorgenson, Matthew Kleberg, Rebecca Lambert, Erin Latz, Tyler Mastrogianakis, Katie Long, Austin Nield and Alex Wilson. Dr. Jon Beebe is their musical coach.

Their program includes “Suite” from Op. 11 and 13 by Gotthilf Heinrich Kummer, “Divertimento No. 1” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and “Turkish March” by Julius Weissenborn.

“Startle Pattern” written by senior music performance major Ward Francis will be premiered at the performance.

The musicians also will perform “Scherzo” by Thoma Simaku, “If I Only Had a Brain” by Harold Arlen, “Introduction and Allegro” by Charles Knox and “Puttin’ On the Ritz” by Irving Berlin.
