Works for brass performed Nov. 3

BOONE—Works for brass choirs including compositions by Elgar, Mendelssohn and Brahms will be performed Nov. 3 by the Appalachian Brass Studio Ensembles at Appalachian State University.

The free performance begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall with the Appalachian Trumpet Choir. The musicians will perform “The Storm’s Path” by Brian Balmages, “Variants with Cadenzas” by William Schmidt and “Shenandoah” arranged by James Olcott.

The Appalachian Tuba/Euphonium Collective will perform “Nimrod” from Edward Elgar’s “Enigma Variations” and “Hungarian Dance No. 5” by Brahms.

The Appalachian Horn Choir will perform “Nocturne” from Felix Mendelssohn’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Farewell to Red Castle” by Kerry Turner.

The program concludes with the Appalachian Trombone Choir performing “Blowfest” by Anthony O’Toole, “How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place” by Brahms and “Game of Thrones Suite” by Ramin Djwadi.
