Historical drama ‘Aśoka the Great’ shown Nov. 19

BOONE—“Aśoka the Great,” the 2001 Indian historical drama, will be shown Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in I.G. Greer Auditorium at Appalachian State University. Admission is free. The showing is part of the university’s Global Film Series.

Come experience the romance, fun and beauty that is Bollywood. “Ashoka” is an epic historic drama and love story, starring two of the biggest stars in India: Shahrukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor.

“With elements of both ‘Gandhi’ and ‘Braveheart,’ ‘Asoka the Great’ is a big, sprawling epic that looks every rupee it took to bring it to the screen,” wrote BBC critic Neil Smith.

Presented as part of International Education Week, this film is co-sponsored by the Office of International Education and Development, iPals, Belk Library and Information Commons and Multicultural Student Development.

The Global Film Series is a cooperative campus effort to provide a blend of cinema from around the world in various languages and representing a wide variety of cinematic genres.
