12th Annual Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition open for submissions

BOONE—The 12th Annual Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition (AMPC) is accepting submissions through Friday, Nov. 21. A long-standing partnership between Appalachian State University’s Outdoor Programs and the Turchin Center for Visual Arts, the competition focuses on the unique people, places and pursuits that distinguish the Southern Appalachians. AMPC has grown into one of the most esteemed photography competitions in the region, attracting entries from all across the United States. The competition offers a number of categories with chances to win over $4,000 in cash and prizes including a Best in Show prize of $1,000. Categories include Adventure, Blue Ridge Parkway-Beyond the Blacktop, Culture, Our Ecological Footprint, Flora/Fauna, and Landscape.

The exhibition will be installed at the Turchin Center for Visual Arts and will run from March 6 to June 5, 2015 with an estimated 6,000 visitors expected to view the exhibit.

The competition is sponsored by Virtual Blue Ridge, the premier online resource for the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Mast General Store. Cash and prizes are provided by the generous support of the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, Footsloggers Outdoor and Travel Outfitters, and Appalachian Voices. A portion of the proceeds from the AMPC will support Appalachian’s Outdoor Programs Student Outdoor Learning Expeditions.
