Call for papers issued for Annual Conference in World History and Economics

BOONE—A call for papers and panel presentation proposals has been issued for the 10th Annual Conference in World History and Economics to be held in April 2015 at Appalachian State University.

This year’s conference theme is “History and Nature of Capitalism.” Paper or panel discussion proposals do not have to be tied directly to the conference theme, but papers fitting with the theme will be given special consideration.

Those interested in participating should notify organizers by Feb. 10, 2015. A one-page abstract describing the scholar’s proposal should be submitted to the organizers by that date. A full paper will be expected by the organizers by March 10, 2015.

This year’s speaker will be Dr. Deirdre McCloskey, distinguished professor of economics, history, English and communication at the University of Illinois at Chicago, as well as professor of economic history at Gothenburg University in Sweden.

McCloskey is a leading specialist in the methodology of economics and economic history, history of capitalism, ethics and markets, industrial revolutions and long-run economic growth.

She has written 16 books and approximately 400 scholarly pieces on topics ranging from technical economics and statistics to transgender advocacy and ethics. She also has received numerous honorary degrees and awards for her scholarly work.
