Appropriate technology presentations held Nov. 19 and 21

BOONE—Representatives from companies involved with solar energy technologies will speak Nov. 19 and 21 at Appalachian State University. Their presentations are sponsored by The Sustainable Energy Society and the appropriate technology program in the Department of Technology and Environmental Design.

Representatives from the SMA (Sunny Boy) inverter company will speak Wednesday, Nov. 19, at part of the Renewable Energy Speaker Series. SMA is one of the largest and most successful inverter companies in the world and is the company that developed direct grid tie battery-less inverter technology. They will speak from 7-9 p.m. in Room 117 of Katherine Harper Hall. The public is welcome.

SolarCity representatives will be on campus Friday, Nov. 21, from 3-5 p.m. in Room 117 Katherine Harper Hall. SolarCity is the largest installer of residential PV systems in the U.S. and recently hired more than 20 of the appropriate technology program’s graduates. The company is interested in hiring more Appalachian graduates, so their visit to campus will provide an opportunity for students to learn more about opportunities in the PV industry and SolarCity.
