Jazz dinner at the Meadowview Inn to benefit Appalachian’s jazz program

BOONE—Jazz Ensemble I from Appalachian State University’s Hayes School of Music will present An Evening of Big Band Christmas Jazz and Buffet Dinner Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Meadowbrook Inn in Blowing Rock.

Proceeds will support students participating in the ensemble’s performing tour of Italy in May 2015. The Hayes School of Music and Blowing Rock Jazz Society are assisting with the event.

Cost is $40 per person. The cash bar opens at 5:45 p.m., a pasta bar buffet dinner will be open from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and the band will perform from 7:30-8:30 p.m. A combo will perform during dinner.

For tickets, visit the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts box office on campus or call 828-262-4046 or 800-841-2787 for tickets. The deadline to purchase tickets is Dec. 2. “Will Call” tickets will be available at the Meadowbrook Inn the evening of the concert beginning at 5:45 p.m.

Big Band tunes will include jazz versions of “Nutcracker Suite,” “Good King Wenceslas,” “Away in a Manger,” “Let it Snow,” “Christmas Waltz,” “I’ll be Home for Christmas,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Christmas Time is Here,” “Jingle Bells” and others. The combo will play Christmas music as well.

Friends of Appalachian’s jazz program are invited to travel with the ensemble to Italy. During the 10-day trip, the tour will visit Milan, Verona, Venice, Montecatini, Florence, Pisa, Siena, Rome, Pompeii, Sorrento, Amalfi and Naples with several stops in other cities and villages. There will be jazz performances along the way.
