Appalachian Dance Ensemble presents the spring showcase April 7-9

BOONE—The Appalachian Dance Ensemble will present their spring concert in the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts on the Appalachian State University campus at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, April 7–9. The event offers a mix of faculty and student choreographed dances, with an upbeat array of styles to suit all dance lovers.

Lecture on slave impressment during the Civil War in North Carolina presented April 14

BOONE—Civil war historian Jaime Amanda Martinez will speak April 14 at Appalachian State University on “Slave Impressment and Political Dissent in Governor Zeb Vance’s North Carolina.” Her lecture begins at 6 p.m. in room 114 Belk Library and Information Commons. The public is invited to attend.

Diversity Celebration offers community an international extravaganza April 5

BOONE—Cloggers, Hmong dancers, poetry readings, international foods, music, costumes. Come experience all these and more at the 15th annual Diversity Celebration, 3–9 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, in Appalachian State University’s Plemmons Student Union. BOONE—The first-ever Symposium for Creative Social Stewardship will take place on the Appalachian State University campus on Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2 in Plemmons Student Union.

Appalachian Brass Studio Ensembles to perform April 6

Celebrate spring with Hayes School of Music faculty April 5

BOONE—Faculty members from the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University will celebrate April’s arrival with an April 5 program titled “An Evening of Spring Renewal” that is based on compositions related to water or spring.

Annual Appalachian GuitarFest held April 8-10

BOONE—Classical guitarists from across the U.S. will perform during the 21st Annual Appalachian Guitarfest April 8-10 at Appalachian State University.

Concerts will feature Stephen Robinson and the trio Corde Cantanti April 8 at 8 p.m., Ricardo Cobo and Stephen Mattingly April 9 at 8 p.m. and a performance by the GuitarFest Guitar Orchestra April 10 at 11 a.m. The final round of Division I competition begins at 1 p.m. All concerts will be in Broyhill Music Center.

Course in international leadership offered this fall at Appalachian

BOONE—A partnership between Appalachian State University, Novgorod State University in Russia and COMSATS Institute of Information Technology in Pakistan is focused on increasing students’, teachers’ and others’ foundations of cultural awareness and communication.
