Smith Gallery presents Southern Constellations

BOONE—Smith Gallery at Appalachian State University presents Southern Constellations, an exhibition of select works from artists participating in the Southern Constellations program at the Elsewhere Museum in Greensboro.

Assistant art professor awarded grant for research on post-digital art

BOONE—Assistant Professor of Art Tricia Treacy recently received a 2014 Craft Research Fund project grant for $10,000 to research hand-produced art in an age of digital technology. She is collaborating with Ashley John Pigford, an associate professor of visual communications at the University of Delaware.

Artist Janet Echelman presents ‘Reshaping Public Space’ Oct. 29

BOONE—Artist Janet Echelman’s Oct. 29 lecture titled “Reshaping Public Space”  has been moved to Plemmons Student Union’s Parkway Ballroom at Appalachian State University. Her talk begins at 6:30 p.m.  Echelman will discuss her work that intersects fine art, ancient craft, technology, architecture and public art.

Smith Gallery hosts advanced screening of ‘Art21’ documentary series

BOONE—A screening of selections from the seventh season of the contemporary art documentary series “Art21” will be held Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m. The Smith Gallery in the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts will host the screening of the award-winning documentaries in Room 114 in Appalachian State University’s Belk Library and Information Commons. The event is free and open to the public.

Looking Glass Gallery presents autobiographical ‘No One Sits Next to the Black Girl on the Bus’

BOONE—Senior studio art major Renee Cloud’s work reflects her experiences navigating the complexities of race. The Appalachian State University students photographic and mixed media works are on display through Sept. 16 in an exhibit in Looking Glass Gallery titled “No One Sits Next to the Black Girl on the Bus.”
