Bathanti receives the Roanoke-Chowan Award for Poetry

BOONE—Former N.C. Poet Laureate Joseph Bathanti was one of six North Carolina writers honored by the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association during its annual meeting Nov. 7 at Tryon Palace History Education Center.

Poet Shira Dentz visits campus Nov. 13

BOONE—Poet Shira Dentz will read from her work and present a craft talk Nov. 13 at Appalachian State University. The craft talk will begin at 2 p.m. in Plemmons Student Union’s Table Rock Room and her talk will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the union’s Rough Ridge Room. Dentz’s campus visit is sponsored by the Hughlene Bostian Frank Visiting Writers Series. Both events are free and open to the public.

Joseph Bathanti author reading and book signing Oct. 9

BOONE—Appalachian State University faculty member and former N.C. Poet Laureate Joseph Bathanti will read from and sign copies of his newest book, “Half of What I Say Is Meaningless: Essays” Oct. 9 at The Scholars Bookshop inside University Bookstore.

George Ella Lyon is hosted by Appalachian’s Visiting Writers Series Oct. 2

BOONE—George Ella Lyon, the Rachel Rivers-Coffey Distinguished Professor in Creative Writing at Appalachian State University, will read from her work Oct. 2. The presentation is part of the Hughlene Bostian Frank Visiting Writers Series. A reception in Lyon’s honor will be held in Plemmons Student Union’s Price Lake Room from 6-7:15 p.m., followed by a reading in the Table Rock Room at 7:30. The public is invited.

Potluck for creative writing transfer students held April 17

BOONE—Current and incoming transfer students interested in creative writing are invited to attend a potluck dinner sponsored by the creative writing concentration faculty and the Department of English.
