Perry receives $494,000 NSF grant to study precipitation in the Andes Mountains

Watauga County teachers and Grandfather Mountain naturalists will assist in the research

BOONE—Baker Perry has been studying precipitation and climate change in the Andes for more than 15 years – even longer if you consider the time he spent as the child of rural health workers in Bolivia and Peru.

Golf tournament honors Appalachian alumnus

BOONE—Golf for fun and a good cause Monday, Oct. 7, during the 14th Annual Stephen’s Tournament at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Raleigh, a course designed by 1992 US Open Champion Tom Kite. The tournament begins at 11:30 a.m.

Appalachian faculty to attend summer institute designed to enhance student learning

BOONE—Five faculty/administrators from Appalachian State University have been selected to attend the Association of American Colleges and Universities’ (AACU) Institute on Integrative Learning and the Departments to be held July 10-14 at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon.

BOONE—Appalachian State University undergraduate geography majors Gordon Buckingham of Charlotte and Peter Nasuti of New London have been accepted into the competitive Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) summer program.

Power of Design to feature Tim Duggan of the Make It Right Foundation

BOONE—The 7th Power of Design symposium featuring Tim Duggan of the Make It Right Foundation will be held Tuesday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. at Appalachian State University. The event will be held in Plemmons Student Union’s Price Lake Room. Duggan’s talk is titled “Disaster to Opportunity.” The public is invited.
