Homecoming 2012 to be held Oct. 5-6

BOONE—Appalachian State University alumni are invited to celebrate “The Big Apple at 3,333 feet” at Homecoming Friday, Oct. 5, and Saturday, Oct. 6. Events include Friday night’s popular traditions, Saturday tailgating and football at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

State Parks and Recreation director named College of Arts and Sciences’ Alumnus of the Year

BOONE—Lewis Ledford, director of the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation, was named the College of Arts and Sciences Alumnus of the Year at Appalachian State University. The award was presented during the college’s Honors Day program.

Appalachian graduates include 11 new Army officers

BOONE—Eleven seniors from the Army ROTC program at Appalachian State University became officers in the U.S. Army during a commissioning ceremony held on campus May 11.

Alumni Reunion Weekend held June 8-9 at Appalachian

BOONE—Alumni Reunion Weekend will be held June 8-9 at Appalachian State University. Among the activities planned is the Alumni Awards Gala on Saturday, June 9, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the George M. Holmes Convocation Center.

Appalachian leads nation in number of alumni teachers who become National Board Certified

View larger imageBOONE – Appalachian State University leads the nation in the number of alumni who became National Board Certified teachers in 2011, according to information released this month by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). Of this year’s 6,266 teachers across the nation who achieved certification through NBPTS, a total of 1,244 are in North Carolina and 130 graduated from Appalachian.

Appalachian Alumni Reunion Weekend is June 10-11

Appalachian State University will host its annual Alumni Reunion Weekend June 10-11. Activities will include campus walking tours, a wine tasting and tour of the Solar Homestead project, class meetings, a tour of the university’s newest athletic facilities and the Appalachian Alumni Awards Gala.

Reaves receives Volunteer of the Year Award from CASE
