Commencement ceremonies to be held Dec. 13 at Appalachian

BOONE—Nearly 1,400 students will receive degrees during Appalachian State University’s commencement Dec. 13 in the Holmes Convocation Center on campus.

Campus emergency siren test conducted Dec. 3

BOONE—Appalachian State University will test its campus-wide siren warning system Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 11:55 a.m.

The campus drill also will include a recorded message indicating the beginning and end of the test.

Appalachian Chorale performs Dec. 2

BOONE—The Appalachian Chorale will perform works by Johann Adolf Hasse, Franz Biebl and Felix Mendelssohn at 8 p.m. Dec. 2 in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.

Appalachian Symphony Band and Trombone Choir perform Dec. 3

BOONE—The Appalachian Symphony Band’s Dec. 3 program, “Hymns, Carols, and Elves!,” features whimsical, spiritual and rousing works for brass, woodwinds and percussionists.

Jazz dinner at the Meadowview Inn to benefit Appalachian’s jazz program

BOONE—Jazz Ensemble I from Appalachian State University’s Hayes School of Music will present An Evening of Big Band Christmas Jazz and Buffet Dinner Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Meadowbrook Inn in Blowing Rock.

Appalachian Gospel Choir performs Nov. 23

BOONE—Traditional and contemporary gospel songs will be performed Nov. 23 at Appalachian State University. The Appalachian Gospel Choir will take the stage at 6 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninoff and Gershwin performed Nov. 23

BOONE—Works by Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninoff and Gershwin fill the program for the Appalachian Repertory Orchestra performance Nov. 23. The program begins at 2 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. William Selle is the conductor. Admission is free.

Appropriate technology presentations held Nov. 19 and 21

BOONE—Representatives from companies involved with solar energy technologies will speak Nov. 19 and 21 at Appalachian State University. Their presentations are sponsored by The Sustainable Energy Society and the appropriate technology program in the Department of Technology and Environmental Design.

High school and university student musicians perform Nov. 24

BOONE—The Leesville Road High School Symphonic Band from Raleigh will join the Appalachian Wind Ensemble for a Nov. 24 performance at 8 p.m. in the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.
